Since the beginning of 2008 we have been building up links with our local police team, the
Walton & West Safer Neighbourhood Team and our Community Officer PC Dave Randell. We have run several
events with their support and are excited about the developing
partnership. Youth anti-social behaviour has been a problem in our neighbourhood and so we have worked together to find ways to help address this problem.
During the October 08 half
term the team planned various events in the local area to engage
children and teens in activities during their school holidays. Some of
these activities took place in the church.
We have also recently been offered the use of a local schools dance mat system to use during school holidays, so February half term saw a series of sessions for all ages taking place at church, supported by the police and run by volunteers from the church.
Over the past few months our committment to helping provide a solution has also involved running games on Somersall Park on Friday evenings in the summer and hosting Ozbox in the church activity hall for 6 weeks in January/February (which the church youth leaders also joined in with - and felt the pain!).
The church also provides a venue for PC Randell to hold his police surgeries so
that local residents can meet him to discuss any problems or issues
they may have, as well as providing a meeting place for the Safer Neighbourhood Panel. In December 08 we became a Community Contact Point for local residents - holding information about the work the police team is doing, safety issues, and providing a means for residents to contact the team about non-urgent matters.
You can find more info about the team and also local crime statistics on the Derbyshire Constabulary website. Pictured below: PC Dave Randell 2397
